Production crew setting up

Typical entry level routes into TV production

If you’re looking for your first role in TV production, whether you’re fresh out of school or changing your career, there are a range of options open to you.

ITV Apprenticeship Scheme

Every year we look to take on a group of apprentices ranging from Level 3 to Level 7 depending on the role. We post our adverts around January/February each year with a start date of September, so keep an eye out for our next recruitment round here.

ITV Technology Graduate Scheme

We are very proud of our two year Technology graduate scheme. Taking on each year, with recruitment starting around October/November for a start date the following September. Graduates can look forward to rotating around the different areas of the Technology team finding where their passion and strengths lie.

Runner roles

Joining us as a Runner is a typical entry level route into the industry and can be a great way to gain exposure to a professional TV environment, experience of industry norms/etiquette as well as access to people that can give you advice on the next stage of your career. They can also be a great way to find out more about potential routes if you’re not yet sure on the path you wish to take.

We generally hire runners on a daily or weekly basis, and often for short term periods so a great way to gain experience to complement any studies.

For runner job postings keep an eye on thetalentmanager.com and on our Facebook Groups.

Industry-wide schemes

ScreenSkills

We work closely with ScreenSkills, who run several schemes to help people make a start in our industry, including First Break, the Trainee Finder paid placement programme, and Skills to Screen which helps people build the skills they need. To find out when each of the schemes will run next, keep an eye on the ScreenSkills website.

The Network

Think TV's not for you? Think again! The Network is a free entry-level scheme for anyone aged 18+ who wants to start a career in television.

The Network takes place every August alongside the Edinburgh TV Festival. 60 delegates will get three days of sessions, masterclasses and workshops led by industry professionals, as well as a year of mentoring and access to exclusive paid jobs. Applications will reopen in February 2021, and you can find out more here.
